Suffering with hope

Breathe – A Poem for the Weary

Breathe

Body and soul

Waging within

Between

Doubt and trust

Fear and faith

Broken but held.

Breathe. His grace abounds.

Pain and weakness

Relentless tension

Between

Anger and acceptance

Detachment  or reliance

Despair or endurance.

Breathe. His strength abounds.

Flesh and spirit

Waging a war

Between

My way or his

This world or the next

My kingdom or the King’s.

Breathe. His mercy abounds.

Inner turmoil

Twisted in knots

Between

Depression and hope

Sorrow and joy

Conflict and peace

Weariness and rest

Pain and comfort.

Breath. His love abounds.

Now and then

Living in two worlds

Between

Faith until sight

Broken until whole

Emptied until full.

Breathe. A day is coming…

Where

Pain will be no more

Tears will dry

Evil will be judged

Sorrow will become joy

And longing will be satisfied.

Where

Waiting will end

Loss will be gain

Death will be swallowed by life

Hope will be fulfilled

And crosses will become crowns.

Breathe. Today may feel hopeless, but tomorrow is coming.

  1. Thank you! I desperately needed this right now. Thank you for writing through your suffering. It is a gift to those of us who struggle to put words to our pain. Praying for you as well.

  2. Sarah,

I have never responded to a blog post in my life – but I want you to know your words and perseverance are encouraging a mom of 2 sick kiddos from a small town in California. Thank you for being a light even in your darkness.
