Hope When It Hurts In Your Marriage

My husband (Jeff) and I are excited to share that, after many months of prayer, we signed a contract with The Good Book Company in August and have begun writing a follow up book to Hope When It Hurts – written for married couples navigating trials of any kind. This is not a “how to” on all things marriage, but rather, an honest look at the real struggles we face in marriage – especially when trials come – and the life-changing hope we have in the gospel. We will be working through the book of Job with short, accessible chapters, that a husband and wife can read individually or together.

Would you be praying with and for us as we write? The Lord has done a deep (and painful) work in both of us over many hard years and our desire is to write in a way that is real about the struggles, but faithful to His Word and lifts the name of Christ above all. Though we have been broken in many ways (personally and maritally), God has sustained our marriage (by his grace) and used what could have destroyed us to give us greater life in him and a greater love for each other. We are not writing on the other side of our trials, but right the midst of them. We pray that Christ will use our current sufferings and all that he is teaching us to apply the truth of the Gospel in a way that blesses and encourages other couples to turn to Christ in their own hurts – and watch expectantly as he works in ways that only he can.

Lord willing, we will be finished writing this year and launch in spring 2020. We are excited, but so very dependent on the Lord. Stay tuned for more to come later this year! Thank you for all of your support and prayers.

“I was pushed hard, so that I was falling, but the Lord helped me. The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.” Psalm 118:13-14

In His strength and for His glory,
Jeff and Sarah Walton

  1. I just found your blog and I’m siting here bawling my eyes out. I have been parenting a child like yours for 16 years. There are ok/good days and terrible days… not a lot in the middle (haha). Looking forward to reading your book(s). I can use all the help/support I can get.

    1. Oh Lindy, my heart breaks for you. I’m so sorry that you’ve been going through this type of struggle as well. Though I wish I had answers for you to ease your suffering, I pray the book with be an encouragement to you. Don’t lose heart, sister. Christ sees your heartache.

  2. This will be an excellent book, and I look forward to reading it when it comes out! Praying for wisdom, clarity of thought, and strength for both of you as you persevere through the writing process. Thank you for the gift you are giving to others through your words.

    1. Thank you so much for your support and encouragement, Rachel. We feel “out of our depth” in many ways…but God has already been so faithful to equip us one step at a time! Thank you for praying!

  3. Hi Sarah

This book definitely is going to be one I’m going to have to get when it comes out but for right now, do you have, or know of, any posts/testimonies that can help a husband with a poorly wife? We’ve only been married 3 years, and my M.E really flared up a year ago. I have been pretty much housebound since August. We are missing being able to do anything together and also, we are 1st generational Christians, we came together late in life, each with alot of baggage and issues. I’m finding it hard being a burden and trying to do as much as i can around being completely horizontal and my hubbys finding it hard navigating living with illness. I have 3 full-time stepsons. It’s all really difficult. I would really like to be able to point him to sone encouragement from the husbands perspective. Gas your hubby ever done a post/interview? X x
